MCAC was formed in April 2001 in response to the rising rates of teen pregnancies in Manitowoc County. The County Health Department called on the churches to address the issue.
Mission Statement:
To promote abstinence and positive decision-making among the youth of Manitowoc County.
Vision Statement:
MCAC is an association of Christian individuals working to promote abstinence, positive choices, and healthy relationships among our youth. The coalition works with community organizations, schools, and interested individuals.
MCAC meets on the 1st Tuesday of most months at
The Crossing,

MCAC Objectives:
-
Increase awareness of abstinence as a viable choice for youth
-
Educate youth about healthy relationships and consequences of decisions
-
Provide a Christian-based component to the abstinence message in the community
-
Promote the dignity and integrity of all youth
-
Encourage communication between youth, parents, and adults about positive choices
MCAC Speakers and Projects:
MCAC uses speakers and other special programs aimed at youth to promote abstinence and positive choices.
We have sponsored nationally recognized speakers. These speakers made presentations at several Manitowoc County schools and at free public events for interested adults and youth who did not have the opportunity at their schools. Response to MCAC speakers:
- From Students: I was very impressed. You were a great influence. I'm not having sex until I'm married.
- From Parents: Thank you so much, my kids loved it.
- From Teachers: They opened conversations with people, how to make right choices, what are the long term consequences of my actions. It has given students a voice and a right to be heard.
"Prom ... a night to remember, not to regret." MCAC helps promote positive choices during prom season, which is one of the times that students will engage in risky sexual behaviors. MCAC promotes "make prom a night to remember not a night to regret" through posters and cards at area florists, tuxedo rental companies, hair salons and schools.
MCAC hosted a WAIT Training Seminar which was attended by people from several states, Wisconsin counties, and local adults interested in presenting curriculum in their communities. The curriculum was also presented to community members in Manitowoc County.
Other outreach includes having a booth at local health fairs and parent resource fairs.
MCAC continues to seek opportunities to reach out to Manitowoc County youth and parents to encourage and educate them to make positive choices for healthy relationships.
Funding:
MCAC is supported through donations.
Speakers and special projects are also supported with grants and donations from corporations and community organizations.
Volunteers and financial donations to support MCAC are welcome and appreciated always.
